It's a frustration anyone with high cheekbones and a low nose bridge will understand: Sunglasses never seem to fit. They slide down the nose and sit too tight on the cheeks, leaving you with smudged lenses and a tendency to keep pushing your sunglasses up every few minutes.
Enter Covry Sunwear, a new sunglasses maker started by high school friends Athina Wang, 25, and Florence Shin, 24, who launched their company after complaining to each other about their sunglasses problems.
"We were both frustrated with not being able to find sunglasses that fit us," Shin told Cosmopolitan.com. "We always felt like we had to compromise the style, the fit, or the price."

Both were working in fashion (and had gone to school for fashion as well), so they took their experience and began testing the products that were on the market. Most sunglasses come in a universal, standard fit, one that works for faces that have high nose bridges and lower cheekbones. Some brands make "Asian fit" sunglasses, but for the Covry co-founders, those styles were still too limited — too athletic, too expensive, or both.
After a year of developing prototypes and going through testing, they landed on a design that they call Elevated Fit, which features longer nose pads, a reduced frame curvature, and narrowed nose bridge.
"The problem isn't really limited to just Asians," Shin said. "People of all ethnicities can share similar problems."
They launched a Kickstarter campaign, surpassing their goal of $18,500 — and then their stretch goal of $25,000. The campaign, which ends at midnight tonight, offers backers first access to one of three Covry styles, each available in three colors. After that, the sunglasses will be available for preorder on Covry's site, and they will start shipping around November.
"We're definitely overwhelmed, but in a good way," Shin said. "People are really excited about this."
